Low carbon flights? by David Flint
Airbus has demonstrated
an electric plane.
The E-Fan is a two-seater light plane with a max speed of 185 mph and an endurance of one hour. The plane,
powered by two 130 kg batteries, will be available commercially from 2017.
Now no-one will be taking an E-fan to the Costa Del Sol just yet but Airbus plans an 80-seater hybrid plane - a
flying Prius. It's coy about dates though.
Air travel is not going to vanish though it must decrease but maybe hybrid planes - if they work - can
help reduce its environmental impact.
Or is this just an unusually elaborate piece of greenwash?
