Cheaper panels by David Flint
Most solar panels include a layer of cadmium chloride which greatly increases the efficiency of the active
component - cadmium Telluride. Unfortunately cadmium chloride is both toxic and expensive, requiring elaborate
safety precautions during manufacture.
Happily Dr Jon Major of Liverpool University
that we can use magnesium chloride instead.
It works just as well, is safe and costs less than 1% of the price!
Another boost for solar PV.
