The end of Edmonton? by David Flint.

You've probably noticed that the Boundary Commission is proposing reducing the number of MPs from 650 to 600 but have you noticed the impact on the Enfield seats? It's easily stated. Bowes ward will become part of Hornsey & Wood Green. Upper Edmonton ward will become part of Tottenham. The other Edmonton wards will become part of a new Chingford and Edmonton constituency.

The intention is to have more nearly the same number of electors in each constituency. The likely consequence will be to further weaken the sense of community in the wards effected. Do Chingford electors feel an affinity with Edmonton? Do Edmonton electors feel an affinity with Chingford? Almost certainly not. We hear that a senior Labour councillor fears that Enfield borough will be dismembered - this seems unlikely - but it's another dog's breakfast from the ConDems!
