Comment - Streets for Living / Road Safety

Curbing the Car by David Flint.

We established last year that, following our petition, the council traffic engineers have measured traffic speeds on seven roads in the Hoppers Road area. The council will propose new calming measures in April and there will be a formal consultation covering the whole area referred to in the petition.

Lead petitioner Jean Robertson-Molloy and others in Hoppers Road.

On Thursday 28th February we are holding a public meeting at Friends Meeting House, Winchmore Hill, to help local residents prepare for the consultation. The speakers will be:

  • Audrey Kirby, Southgate District Civic Trust
  • Liam Mulrooney, Chief Traffic Engineer, Enfield Council
  • Caroline Russell, Chair, Islington Living Streets.
Audrey and Caroline are both members of the Party. I will be chairing and I'll make sure that there's a LOT of time for discussion.

We're currently distributing 2,000 leaflets, putting up posters and informing our local contacts so we expect a good turnout. All members of EGP will be welcome and can usefully represent the party in talking to local residents so please come.
